This is a team project for Transmedia Final on term 2.
This is a group project, and my partner and I are responsible for pages 1 through 7, and page 45 through 59.
At the beginning I did an introduction to the project as a whole, including an introduction to transmedia, and an analysis of the benefits and advantages of transmedia.
My partner and I focused on one of the West Coast Transmedia Idea - International Market Penetration.
I am pleased and proud of the section we led. This section includes a West Coast Transmedia Idea and four East Coast Transmedia Ideas.
Based on the worldview of The Witcher Netflix Series, I created a brand new branching story featuring The Bard.
The Bard was chosen as the main character because he is an essential and character-driven supporting character. This important character can represent The Witcher IP and a very beloved one. This character is an essential feature inside The Witcher IP. Using him to open new side stories is also very influential.
The whole story is about The Bard meeting a legendary creature - Uru, forced to bind with him, to escape from Gerald's tracking and escape to Teapot wonderland inside the adventure.
Since this is the international market penetration, we mainly focus on Chinese and Japanese market. Because of that, we did lots of background and culture investigation. We searched some cases of successful and unsuccessful international market penetration, and figured that if we only focus on the surface of a culture, the it will be bad and no one will pay for it.
As a Chinese, I've observed lots of unsuccessful international market penetration. China is a huge market that cannot be ignored. All companies try to attract the attention of Chinese customers, but only a few do. We will only buy if we feel that our culture is respected, and we can see in the work that the creator has studied and loved the culture in depth.
This is the creative thinking behind our overall project. Instead of copying a traditional Chinese or Japanese story, we incorporated the culture we investigated into the project. International audiences can easily see the features of their own culture in the project.
